LEAP organized the ME25C025 – Re-engineering for Innovation, sponsored by Anna University, at the University College of Engineering, BIT Campus, Tiruchirappalli. Conducted over three days, the program aimed to equip faculty members with hands-on experience in product innovation.
On Day 1, participants were introduced to embedded systems and microcontroller modules. Faculty gained practical exposure to microcontroller programming through activities such as controlling LEDs and sensors. They also explored wireless control by operating LEDs via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi using the ESP32 platform.
Day 2 focused on reverse engineering. Faculty teams disassembled and examined household appliances including iron boxes, table fans, mixer grinders and electric kettles. The session highlighted visual thinking, the importance of technical drawings, and the preparation of Bills of Materials (BoM). By the end of the day, each team proposed a feature enhancement for their selected product and began developing their ideas.
On Day 3, teams continued working on their product enhancements. Faculty successfully implemented solutions such as a Energy saving Smart Fan using Ultrasonic sensor, Smart safety system for Mixer Grinder, and Touch sensor based Smart Iron Box. The program concluded with team presentations, where implementations were demonstrated and reviewed, followed by feedback and suggestions from the LEAP team.
